Premier Health Urgent Care Provides the Care You Need with the Convenience You Want
An illness or injury is never convenient, but thanks to a growing network of Premier Health Urgent Care centers, getting treatment for one can be.
Premier Health’s eighth urgent care center opened Oct. 22 in Centerville, and a ninth is coming this spring in Beavercreek, giving residents in the Dayton region multiple access points for quality care close to home, school, or work when their primary care provider isn’t available.
“Many illnesses and injuries come up unexpectedly,” says Premier Urgent Care nurse practitioner Jeff Penny, MSN, APRN. “Urgent care helps bridge the gap between primary care and emergency care.”
When to Go
Premier Health’s board-certified advanced practice providers stand ready to treat minor illnesses or injuries, 10:00 am to 10:00 pm, seven days a week, 365 days a year. All ages are welcome.
From cold, flu, or sinus infection to sprains, strain, and rashes, the centers care for health problems that need urgent attention but do not require life-saving care or complex interventions.
“Urgent care is similar to a sick visit one might make with their primary care provider,” Jeff says. “We have X-ray imaging on site and diagnostic testing – we can test for urinary tract infections, strep throat, mono, and the flu. We suture simple lacerations and offer vaccines and physicals for student athletes.”
At each center, visitors will find a bright, healing atmosphere that includes an electronic tablet for signing in and a waiting room monitor that displays their name and expected wait time.
Jeff cautions that urgent care centers, while similar in appearance, should not be confused with freestanding emergency centers. Don’t go to an urgent care with chest pain, difficulty breathing or extreme pain, he says. Always, for medical emergencies that need immediate attention, call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room.
Primary Care Follow-up
The facilities are fully connected with Premier Health’s electronic medical records system. That means a patient’s Premier Health provider can easily access a summary of the visit. And if the provider is outside the health system’s network, patients will be given a visit summary at discharge.
Jeff says that urgent cares are no substitute for a primary care home, a provider with whom you’ve established a relationship and a rapport about your health needs and goals.
“The patients we see are here for acute visits and we refer them back to their primary care provider,” he says. “If they don’t have an established provider, we give them resources to find one. Primary care serves a very important role that can’t be fulfilled by urgent care.”
