TeleHealth

At Premier Health, we are using technology to bring our medical expertise to you more quickly and conveniently. Our TeleHealth includes services like a video consultation with a doctor so you don’t have to leave home when you’re sick. Or an immediate evaluation by one of our stroke experts, even if you’re in a community emergency department 50 miles away. 

How Does TeleHealth Work?

Premier Health offers several services that use technology to connect you electronically to a health care provider:

Premier Virtual Care

It’s 2 a.m., and your 3-year-old is awake with a severe cough and high fever. You need help now but don’t want to add to your child’s misery by spending hours in an emergency room.

Premier Virtual Care offers a video consultation with a board-certified physician or nurse practitioner for common non-emergent illnesses in children and adults: flu, allergies, rash, urinary tract infection, and more. You don’t need an appointment for these video visits, and we’re here 24 hours a day, seven days a week for Ohio residents.

Premier Health E-Visits with MyChart

You’re at home in the evening and feeling the signs of a developing urinary tract infection. You have a full schedule of meetings the next day and don’t have time to squeeze in a doctor visit.

E-Visits allow you to visit your health care provider directly from your computer during normal business hours. An E-Visit doesn’t replace seeing your doctor for more serious health problems, but you can use it for common non-emergent health issues like urinary problems, sinus issues, headaches, and coughing. You can submit an E-visit questionnaire if you are age 18 or older, have a Premier Health primary care physician, are located in Ohio and are signed up with our MyChart electronic communication service. 

TeleStroke Stroke Care

An ambulance brings a man with stroke symptoms to Upper Valley Medical Center’s Emergency Department (ED) in Troy. The ED team contacts a stroke neurologist on call at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton to evaluate and talk to him via a secure video conference line. The physician also views the patient’s CT scan and lab results and quickly recommends a clot-busting medication, immediately administered by ED staff. The patient is transported via CareFlight Air and Mobile Services to Miami Valley Hospital and admitted to the Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit. 

When every minute matters, Premier’s TeleStroke services bring the highest level of stroke care to patients at several southwest Ohio hospitals. Our board-certified stroke neurologists and neurointensivists speed care to patients who have signs of stroke using a computer and monitor that bring the doctor to the patient’s bedside. The stroke specialists’ prompt evaluation and care recommendations help to improve a patient’s chances for recovery — even if the patient is in a community hospital across town.

TeleSocialWork

For patients at Premier Health’s smaller EDs who need a consultation with a social worker — day or night — ED physicians can refer them to Premier TeleSocialWork. Social workers at Miami Valley Hospital can talk directly with patients at neighboring Premier hospitals via a computer and monitor wheeled right to the patient’s bedside. Social workers can provide ED patients with information and referral to many community or behavioral health agencies.

A Regional Leader in TeleHealth

Premier Health works with TeleHealth programs across the country to share best practices and gather ideas. Premier’s TeleHealth interdisciplinary team actively participates with the American Telemedicine Association, staying abreast of advances and connecting with other programs. Premier also participates in the Ohio Hospital Association TeleHealth Workgroup.
