Premier Nurse Recognition Nursing Awards

Congratulations to the Premier Health nursing staff for their continued dedication and service during Nurse Recognition Week. This special edition of the Premier Nursing Newsletter is dedicated to our nurses – your colleagues – who were recognized at a May 4 banquet at the Schuster Center in downtown Dayton.

Recognition PinWe selected 45 nursing colleagues and 10 key interdisciplinary partners from across the system based on your nomination stories, which were blindly reviewed.  Each winner has demonstrated a strong commitment to our Every Patient, Every Time philosophy and our cultural values of respect, integrity, compassion, and excellence. Winners received a beautiful silver pin to recognize their accomplishments.

More than 1,400 nominations were submitted for clinical nurses in the following categories:

Behind the Scenes: The Premier Nurse Recognition Committee was established late in 2013 to create guidelines for a systematized approach to determining which nurses should be recognized for their service.  This committee includes members from all Premier facilities including AMC, Fidelity, GSH, MVH, and UVMC. The team includes Jayne Gmeiner, System Director of Professional Practice, and the following members:

  • Atrium - Linda Duplechian, Caitlin Russell, Julie Fischmer, and Melissa Mercurio
  • Fidelity - Mary Walters and Kristen Jones
  • GSH/GSH North - Cindy Campbell, Daisy Dronen, Missy Staton, and Geoff Underwood
  • MVH/MVHS/MVH Jamestown - Linda Raterman, Tara Gifford, and Tiffany Castelitz
  • Premier System Support - Jayne Gmeiner, Annette Drake, Patty Simmons, and Cinnamon Gregg
  • UVMC - Jenna Geuy, Teri Gulker, and Kate Hagner

In addition to ongoing monthly recognition programs, the Premier Nurse Recognition Committee also plans celebrations to be held during Nurse Recognition Week.  The committee’s four subgroups are focused on the following:

  • Nurse Recognition Week education event
  • Nurse recognition celebration
  • Monthly DAISY and HERO award processes to recognize nurses and interdisciplinary partners within each organization across the system.
  • Publication of Premier Nursing Annual Report

Multiple opportunities to celebrate nursing were offered across the system on May 5 and 6, highlighted by an education and mentorship lecture by Syl Trepanier, DNP, RN, CENP vice president and system chief nursing officer.  Clinical stories from nurses at each facility were also featured during the celebration.

Our committee has also developed a process to implement the monthly DAISY Award across the Premier System. This program honors nurses for their compassionate, expert nursing care. The DAISY Foundation was represented by Janet L. Silvestri, regional program director, Peggy Gojcaj, and Lisa Flaherty, at our May 4 nurse recognition event.

We also implemented the EVERYDAY HEROES Award to recognize our interdisciplinary partners at the unit level.
