Pastoral Care & Support

Premier Health Pastoral Care aims to build a healthier community by working both within the hospital’s walls and outside of them. Within our facilities, we work to promote the holistic well-being of our patients, families and staff. We offer communion, baptism, anointing of the sick and discussion of concerns about procedures or medical decisions.  We also work in the community to educate and empower individuals seeking spiritual well-being and spiritual care-giving skills.

Chapels & Worship

All Premier Health hospitals have chapels available for the use of our patients, families, and staff.  These chapels are quiet places to meditate or pray and are open to all.  Service times vary by facility.

Anam Cara

The Anam Cara program at Good Samaritan Hospital uses caring volunteers to bring an additional source of support and encouragement to patients and their family members.

Anam Cara is the Gaelic phrase for “soul friend.” The Anam Cara program is comprised of caring volunteers who give of their time and energy to make a difference in the lives of others. Anam Cara visit and provide support to patients who are grappling with acute, chronic and sometimes life-threatening illnesses. They often visit with the family members of patients as well.

Anam Cara seeks to be supportive of patients and family members simply by offering caring friendship and a warm heart. They strive to be good listeners and come with no agenda other than to be with patients or family members for a while as a way of lending support and offering encouragement and hope. They approach patients and their loved ones with the awareness that each and every person is a unique human being deserving of dignity and respect.

HEAL (Help Endure a Loss) Program

Losing a child is one of the most devastating things that can happen to a family; the parents often feel as if they can’t survive the death. The HEAL (Help Endure a Loss) Program is a support system available to assist families by offering comfort and reassurance in dealing with a loss of this magnitude.

Whether it’s a miscarriage, stillbirth, neonatal or childhood death, HEAL team members—which include Registered Nurses specially trained in bereavement support, as well as volunteers with grief support experience—help families deal with the many issues that accompany such a loss. A chaplain is available for baptism of any deceased infant if requested by the family.

Advance Directives

While it may be difficult to think about, it’s important to plan ahead and document your future medical wishes now, in case you someday become unable to speak for yourself. This not only spares your loved ones from having to make difficult decisions in the future but gives you the peace of mind that your wishes will be honored.

Premier Health Pastoral Care staff is available to assist you in completing your advance directives forms.
