Orthopedic Hip and Knee Care at Premier Health

Hip or knee pain can make walking difficult or painful. Simple tasks such as going up stairs or getting up from a chair may be a real challenge. We want to help you overcome your pain and improve your quality of life.

Our nationally recognized specialists evaluate you carefully and explore non-surgical treatment options to reduce or eliminate your pain. These may include physical therapy or pain management through steroid injections or anti-inflammatory medications.

However, if you get to the point that you can no longer participate in your favorite activities or perform simple functions in your daily life, then it may be time to consider surgery.

If you need joint replacement, you can trust Premier Health’s experts to provide the surgical care and rehabilitation you need to return to normal life quickly. Joint replacement can be a big change in your life. That’s why our surgeons use computer-assisted joint replacement techniques for more precise joint alignment in even the most complex cases. Precision is critical because proper placement makes your replacement joint last longer.

Hip and Knee Surgery

Should surgery be necessary, you can rest assured that you’ll receive outstanding care and the optimal recovery atmosphere that makes you and your family comfortable.

  • Bone deformities
  • Femoroacetabular impingement (FAI)
  • Fractures
  • Labral tears
  • Overuse

Knee conditions that may require surgery include:

  • Arthritis
  • Anterior cruciate ligament tears
  • Meniscus tears
  • Patellar/quadriceps tendon injury

Offered through:  Miami Valley Hospital, Good Samaritan Hospital, Atrium Medical Center, Upper Valley Medical Center

Minimally Invasive Procedures

In some cases, minimally invasive surgical options may be available. Arthroscopy enables your surgeon to inspect, diagnose and repair problems inside your hip or knee with just a few small incisions.

During arthroscopy, your surgeon inserts a tiny camera, called an arthroscope, into your hip or knee through a small incision. The camera displays pictures on a television screen, and the surgeon uses these images to guide miniature surgical instruments through other small incisions.

Premier Health offers a direct anterior approach to hip replacement. Direct anterior hip replacement uses an incision that avoids muscle tissue. This minimally invasive procedure often results in less pain and faster recovery than traditional hip replacement surgery.

Like other minimally invasive procedures, arthroscopy often has some important benefits:

  • Less pain
  • Faster recovery
  • Less scarring
  • Less blood loss

Offered through:  Miami Valley Hospital, Good Samaritan Hospital, Atrium Medical Center, Upper Valley Medical Center (only knee)

Hip Replacement

Traditional hip replacement requires the surgeon to cut through muscle. The damaged parts of the joint hip are removed and replaced with new, artificial parts. After hip replacement and rehabilitation you should be able to return to normal activities.

Offered through:  Miami Valley Hospital, Good Samaritan Hospital, Atrium Medical Center, Upper Valley Medical Center

Knee Replacement

If damage to your knee cannot be repaired with surgery, your specialist may recommend a knee replacement. Knee replacement surgery (knee arthroplasty) involves removing your damaged knee joint and replacing it with an artificial joint. After knee replacement and rehabilitation you should be able to return to normal activities.

Offered through:  Miami Valley Hospital, Good Samaritan Hospital, Atrium Medical Center, Upper Valley Medical Center
