Leg Pain?

Free Screenings from Premier Health

Many people who have leg pain when they walk or climb stairs may have peripheral arterial disease (PAD). PAD is also called poor circulation, hardening of the arteries, or atherosclerosis. It develops over time, but may not appear until later in life. An ABI (ankle-brachial index) screening is a simple way to find out if you may have PAD.

An ABI screening measures the blood pressure in your arms and ankles. The readings are compared to see how the blood is flowing. If there is a problem, you will need to see your physician.

A free screening for PAD is for those age 65 and older who have one of the following:

  • Leg pain with activity such as walking or climbing stairs that stops with rest
  • A personal history of heart disease or stroke
  • Been a smoker for 10 or more years
  • Had diabetes for many years

Take steps toward less pain

  • A screening for PAD includes taking a blood pressure on your arms and legs
  • Please wear shoes, socks and clothing that are easily removed and allow for easy access to your arms and lower legs
  • This is a screening only and not meant to take the place of a visit with your physician

Screenings for PAD are free, but appointments are required.
