Cardiac catheterization procedures are minimally invasive, non-surgical procedures performed by Premier Health cardiologists. Cardiac catheterization is used to diagnose and treat coronary artery disease.
A catheterization laboratory or cath lab is a special examination room with diagnostic imaging equipment used to support the catheterization procedure. During these procedures, a long, narrow, flexible tube called a catheter is inserted through an artery in the groin or arm, while a tracking system provides a clear view of the arterial system and the heart's pumping action.
